In Into the Wild, Christopher McCandless gives up many of his possessions in pursuit of freedom and meaningful experiences. If you had to simplify your life and keep only a few important possessions, what would you keep and why? What would be hardest to leave behind?

Prompt Response: If I could only keep a few of my possessions, I would keep my wrestling shoes, my computer, and my phone. I would keep these items because they are things I use almost every day.  Summary: Today we read chapter 4 of our book and then answered questions on writable about the book. Reflection: I learned about some of the different meanings of quotes in the book Into the Wild.

People sometimes feel the need to step away from their normal routines or environments in order to better understand themselves. Describe a time when you needed distance from a situation, place, or group of people in order to think more clearly or gain perspective. What did that experience teach you about yourself?

Prompt Response: A time I needed to step away from my normal routine was after the wrestling season. I had become very used to going to two practices every day and wrestling a match every weekend and I almost could not imagine a life without wrestling. I decided to take a week long break from wrestling after the season to see what life was like without wrestling. Summary: Today we read chapter two and three of Into the Wild and answered a lot of questions on the theme of the book. Reflection: I learned a lot about the themes in Into the Wild.

After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response: I think that Chris McCandles was someone who was very optimistic about things. I don't think that McCandles was stupid but I think that his thoughts of a perfect, solitary life in the woods clouded the fact that he had zero experience surviving in the wilderness and was very unprepared. Summary: Today we read the first chapter of Into the Wild. Before reading the chapter we also looked at a PowerPoint that told us some background on the story of Chris McCandles. Reflection: I learned about who Chris McCandles was and what he sought out to do.

Today you worked on creating your Vocabulary Digital Cards in Adobe Express. In one well-developed paragraph, reflect on the assignment by explaining which vocabulary word was easiest for you to understand, which word was most challenging, and how creating your own sentence and selecting an image helped strengthen your understanding of the vocabulary. Use specific examples from your work.

Prompt Response: The word I found easiest was the word corroborate, I hear this word a lot and I am pretty familiar with what it means. One word that was unfamiliar was toady, I had never heard anyone use that and looking it for pictures up just gave me images of toads. I thought connecting an image greatly helped my understanding of the words because it allowed me to visualize them. Summary: Today we made flashcards in Adobe Express of vocabulary words in lesson nine of our vocab book. Reflection: I learned how to use vocabulary in lesson nine of our vocab book.

After viewing your classmates’ digital posters and reading the feedback comments left on your work, what new ideas or perspectives did you gain about your poster? Reflect on how the feedback influenced the way you think about your creative choices and describe what you learned about the creative process while designing and presenting your poster.

Prompt Response: I really liked the way the other students in this class designed their posters. I think that next time I can format my poster a lot better and make it a lot more understandable. Summary: Today we watched two news report videos on the subject of AI in schools and colleges. After watching the videos we answered questions on them and then we viewed our classmates digital posters. Reflection: I learned about how AI is being used and how colleges and schools are handling it. I also learned that many students are being falsely accused of using AI which I did not know was such a prevalent issue.

Reflect on the simile and metaphor worksheet. Which topic challenged you the most when creating your figurative language, and why? In your response, explain what made that topic difficult and how you worked through the challenge (or what you might do differently next time).

Prompt Response: I think that using metaphors was the more difficult topic that we did. I found metaphors more difficult because you have to directly say that something is something. I find this more difficult because if it is done incorrectly it ends up not making sense. By doing research on examples of metaphors, I was able to make mine good. Summary: Today we made posters with our reflective similes and metaphors, in the posters we added images to represent the literary devices and made explanations of their meanings. Reflection: I learned how to use similes and metaphors better.

Today you created similes and metaphors that reflect your struggles, growth, and resilience. In a well-developed paragraph, reflect on the process. What did you learn about yourself while writing your figurative language?

Prompt Response: When writing my simile's and metaphor's, I learned a lot about myself. Reflecting on the struggles and hardships I have gone through in my life gave me a feeling of clarity. I don't really take a lot of time to look back on the past in my life and I think doing so really made me feel good about myself. Summary: Today we wrote 6 simile's and 6 metaphor's about our self concerning various topics in our lives. Reflection: I learned a lot about myself by reflecting on my past.
