After reading Chapter 1 of Into the Wild, consider your first impression of Christopher McCandless. Based solely on the events and details presented in this opening chapter, do you believe McCandless truly understood the risks he was taking when he entered the Alaskan wilderness? Why or why not?

Prompt Response:

I think that Chris McCandles was someone who was very optimistic about things. I don't think that McCandles was stupid but I think that his thoughts of a perfect, solitary life in the woods clouded the fact that he had zero experience surviving in the wilderness and was very unprepared.

Summary:

Today we read the first chapter of Into the Wild. Before reading the chapter we also looked at a PowerPoint that told us some background on the story of Chris McCandles.

Reflection:

I learned about who Chris McCandles was and what he sought out to do.
